Definition
Physical security risk assessment: A site-level review of the threats, vulnerabilities and existing controls at a specific building, branch or facility, scored against a consistent method such as ISO 31000. It differs from country risk analysis, which looks at political and travel risk across a whole nation.
What does S.G. Technologies do for organisations in West Africa?
S.G. Technologies works at the level of the individual site: the branch, office, warehouse, residence or facility your people actually use. Its regional work covers physical security risk assessment, physical security audits, security system design (CCTV, access control, alarms and fire detection), security master planning for multi-site estates, fire risk assessment and security and safety training for staff and in-house security teams.
Where has S.G. Technologies worked outside Ghana?
For Enterprise Insurance, S.G. Technologies delivered risk assessment consultancy, the design and installation of integrated security and safety systems, and security and safety training in three countries:
| Country | Locations | Scope |
|---|---|---|
| Ghana | 52 | Safety and compliance consultancy, integrated security and safety systems, MEP benchmarking |
| Nigeria | 4 | Risk assessment, integrated security and safety systems, training |
| The Gambia | 4 | Risk assessment, integrated security and safety systems, training |
In Ghana, clients also include Standard Chartered Bank (centralised monitoring across 23 branches, 60 ATMs and 800 cameras), the Swiss and Canadian embassies, the European Union building, the UN Office in Accra, Volta River Authority and Wilmar Africa. See the project portfolio for scope details.
How does a multi-country security programme work?
A regional estate is assessed as one programme, not as a series of unrelated site visits. S.G. Technologies agrees the scope and site list up front, assesses a representative sample of locations in depth, and applies one scoring standard to every site in every country. The findings are consolidated into a single risk picture that shows which locations carry the most risk, which weaknesses repeat across the network, and where spending will reduce the most risk. Rollouts are phased so branches keep operating, and training can follow a train-the-trainer model so each country keeps the capability after the consultants leave.
How is site-level consultancy different from a country risk report?
Country risk and travel-security providers tell you how dangerous a country or city is. They rarely tell you whether the back door of a particular branch is properly controlled, whether your cameras cover the cash office, or whether staff know the evacuation route. S.G. Technologies answers those questions. Many organisations use both: a country picture for strategy and travel decisions, and a site assessment for the controls at each location.
What should you check before appointing a security consultant in West Africa?
- Certifications: CPP, PSP or PCI from ASIS International, verifiable on the ASIS registry. S.G. Technologies' consultants hold all three.
- Method: ask for a sample report structure, with a vulnerability register and prioritised recommendations, and the standard it follows (S.G. Technologies works to ISO 31000).
- Cross-border references: named clients for whom the firm has worked in more than one country.
- Security and safety together: fire and life-safety risks should be assessed in the same visit, not left to a separate contractor.
- Local rules: fire certification, licensing and data-protection requirements differ by country. A good consultant flags them and works with your local counsel or facilities team to confirm them.
